Evidence/activity/anecdote: I chose to focus on real life learning as how I meet this standard. In 4th grade we take a trip to the Wet Market to buy fruit. We also have developed some debates that the students participate in. In science we discuss about how those things we learned and experimented with, and how they affect our lives. We have also added a small bridge building unit at the end of the year.
Impact on student’s learning:
Students are more excited about what they learn and tend to remember what they have learned for a longer period of time.
Students also learn how to collaborate, and their social skills improve.
Studies suggest that real life learning correlates positively with improved test scores, reduced absenteeism, and fewer disciplinary problems.
